The Lander Project Man and machine vs nature 1997-2002
The Lander Project started as a simple brief to get Davidson back into furniture design after several years working as a concept designer for LEGO and in television and fashion photography as an art director and prop maker. What was supposed to be a short project to create a wow piece of furniture ended up taking the best part of five years to complete.
By the time the first chair was finished Davidson had produced and with out aid of any 3D modeling packages his own sand casting patterns, two high pressure polyurethane injection moulds, three fiberglass moulds, one plywood mould and several metal welding jigs not to mention a sizable loan. see images
Only two Lander Chairs where ever made due to lack of interest in the design and the art gallery price tag.
The Lander project was completed with the addition of two more furniture pieces based around the continuing theme of Man and Machine vs Nature, the A-10 and A-10 Buck.
