STOOLIES An unfinished project 1995-96
The Stoolies project has for the best part of it’s life remained on paper. It inspired the Wheelers and gave birth to a number of prototypes and a pair of one of pieces (see left) dated 5/1/1996.
The original concept was to produce around 50 or so variations on the theme of a stool each individually dressed up or decorated to create a character.
Davidson wanted to produce a faithful three dimensional version of each piece using fiberglass, metal and wood with a manufactured esthetic, however producing just one with the limited resources he had at that time proved to hard and frustrating.
A couple of the prototypes remain in daily use at Davidsons Studio (see left).
Davidson plans at some point to make a selection of these pieces as quick sketch prototypes for a future show.
